This is so true. Women need support and education to learn about breastfeeding and its immeasuable health benefits for their children. In time of crisis, it truly can mean the difference between life and death. There needs to be more strenuous and vigorous action to force formula manufaturers to comply with the WHO marketing codes, especially in developing countries where families cannot afford the cost of formula. These women have been breastfeeding with the help of a support network of mothers, sisters, grandmothers, doulas and others who help them breastfeeding soon after birth. When formula manufacturers are allowed to market formula feeding, this puts a terrible economic strain on families for whom breastfeeding can help to decrease the infant mortality rates in these countries where people are already economically challenged.

I dont know what happened to them but I would really love to know. It would be wonderful to have active chapters in other parts of the country. In my community esp. where I work we could really use the alliance to give support and education to mom about the benefits of breastfeeding and the truth about formula. Thanks for sharing..
